Registration Form

Istanbul Medeniyet University in collaboration with the Australian National University, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University and the Çanakkale Foundation invites scholars specialising in the Gallipoli campaign to propose papers for its Third International Symposium on Gallipoli to be held on 20-21 April 2012 in Istanbul, Turkey.

With the “Third International Symposium on Gallipoli”, Istanbul Medeniyet University intends to bring together international scholars of the Gallipoli campaign of 1915 including specialists from Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Turkey. The main themes of the conference will be the social, economic and military aspects of the campaign particularly as they are reflected in archival documents, memoires, newspaper articles, visual art, literature, documentaries and films. It is expected that scholars will address the subjects from a range of perspectives based on the original documents and primary sources. Papers from Ottoman and Byzantine periods will also be accepted especially if there is relevance to the period of the Gallipoli campaign.

The central aim of the Symposium is to bring together scholars who will address a broad range of approaches that the campaign has come to be associated with so as to develop new understandings of and perspectives on the campaign. The study of Gallipoli remains a high academic priority as it becomes more of a historical and social focal point.
